THE PRICE IS RIGHT? WHAT IS YOUR QUILT WORTH?

  • We discuss the reasons for, the types of, and the component parts of an appraisal.
  • We bring quilts from many time periods (1830's to present) to illustrate above.
  • The attendees will record their values for our quilts before we give the correct value. The attendee with the most correct answers will receive a free appraisal.
  • Care and use information sheets are given to each attendee.
  • 45 minutes to 1 hour.

DO I REALLY WANT TO BE A QUILT?

  • Discussion of what to do with orphan blocks and stray tops.
  • Participants are asked to bring their "orphans" and "strays" for evaluation and suggestions for use.
  • Some examples will be provided
  • Handouts are given.
  • 45 minutes to 1 hour.

QUILT DATING

  • Give characteristics of different eras in quilt history with examples of quilts. We bring 15 to 20 guilts.
  • No monetary value is given for quilts.
  • Care and use information sheet is given to each attendee.
  • 45 minutes to 1 hour.

QUILT DATING- FOR YOUR INCOME

  • Quilt dating as above except you provide the quilts from your members and/or guests.
  • You charge your members and/or guests $5 to $10 per quilt or a fee to attend the lecture to help defray your lecture cost.

CARE AND PRESERVATION

  • Under what circumstances quilts may be cleaned and repaired.
  • Different ways to display, store, and clean quilts.
  • Do I preserve the quilt in the present condition or restore it to its original state?
  • How to preserve and restore a quilt - develop a plan and execute it.
  • A label on the back of the quilt is necessary for future generations.
  • Care and use information sheet and a sample label is given to attendees.
  • 45 minutes to 1 hour.

  • Don't undervalue what you have!
  • As a professional or a hobbyist, you have a large investment in your sewing equipment, fabric, thread, and books. Look around and take a minute to estimate how much it would cost to replace what is now a part of your quilting life... more than you think (or would like to admit).
